"Barefoot Floors" Lyrics

When Amelia was very young, we used to get her to fall asleep by laying down with her and quietly singing along to a collection of lullabies (Nicolette Larson's "Sleep, Baby, Sleep").

One of my favorites was called "Barefoot Floors." Sometimes I would cry when it came on, because it reminded me of how overwhelmed I felt with love for this new, perfect little being who had come into our lives and how, because of that love, I would do anything for her for the rest of my life.

Now that we're expecting another "miracle" (sounds cheesy but when you look at a newborn baby, it really feels that way), it seemed time to change the name of our blog from "Amelia Jane" to something a little more general (time to share the spotlight!).

Here are the lyrics to the lullaby:

Barefoot Floors

By Neil Young

Sleep, baby, sleep,
I know your day has been oh so long
Sleep, baby sleep,
I know your day has been oh so long
The night falls at your feet
Now the day feels so complete
Compared to darkness
Sleep, baby, sleep.

Talk, baby, talk
Sweet talk is all it’s made of
Talk, baby, talk
Sweet talk is all it’s made of
Promises of the morning ways,
New beginnings for another
Day to spend together
Talk, baby, talk.

Love, baby, love
Has got me walkin’ on these
Barefoot floors
Love, baby, love
Has got me walkin’ on these
Barefoot floors
Find the light
Surrounding you
Sleep the night ’til morning’s dew
I will be here for you
Love, baby, love.
