Home Sweet Home

We are now home safe and sound ... trip back went great (much better than trip down) and am tired but glad to be home.

Trip overall went by fast, as expected. It was amazing to see baby Jenny and how well my sister's doing as a new mom. It helps that Jenny is like, the easiest newborn EVER! So laid back, sleeps a lot, never cries. It's great for my sister, although kind of false advertising if you didn't know better.

Mela was great on the trip and took to Aunt Cathi right away. She was pretty indifferent to baby Jenny most of the week (other than trying to drink her bottles) although she did get a little clingy a couple times. By the end of the week, she had figured out that this baby was something interesting but she was still very wary.

Cute to see them together, knowing that they're cousins and this is just the start of their lifelong relationship.

Being around a newborn also gave us a little taste of what's to come (in seven weeks?!!). A couple times, I had to feed Jenny and entertain/supervise Mela at the same time; not easy! Cute, though, how lightweight and snuggly a new baby is compared to a toddler.

I was wondering, actually, if being around Jenny would make me want a new baby more ... let's just say that I loved holding her but am glad to be home tonight with only a toddler. We did one overnight shift and waking up every couple hours is still just as exhausting as it was a year ago (probably more so because I'm pregnant). Can't imagine how I'm going to do it with Mela around. Especially since you can't totally relax and snuggle the new baby when you're worried the whole time that your toddler feels left out.

I guess we'll just get used to it. Why does each one have to be tough in their own way?!
