Everyday moments and pics
Mela: I need my crazy craw!
Me: Okay, first of all, I didn't hear a please. Secondly, let's work on the "s" sounds for a bit. Can you say "ssssstraw"?
Mela: Ssss..craw!
Me: Okay, let's try again. Can you say "sss-taw"?
Mela: I can't, Mama.
Me: We're practicing. We have to try a couple times.
Mela (sadly): I can't say it, Mama ... I'm too young!
(my muffled laughter)
Nate: Straw!

Meanwhile, Nate has learned the art of selective listening. He only hears the last words of the sentence. Example:
Nate: Cookie monser!
Me: No, we can't have a cookie.
Nate: Okay! (runs towards kitchen)
***
His language development is amazing, though. Since Mela's was so .... how you say, insanely slow, I can't tell if it's genius or just normal. Today he was having trouble getting a toy to work and instead of freaking out (in the manner of some girls I know), he came over and said, "Showme!"
Amazing!

Here are some pics for the "away" family:
For the girl who refuses to sleep in a bed and loves the sheltered feeling of a closet, we finally came up with the solution: a tent! It's big enough to fit her mattress but still feels secure. The highest compliment? She's slept in it every night! And the tree adds a bit of a camping vibe, non? The girl crashes on the lazy boy now around 5 pm. It's not really a break for mom (dying here without the nap!) but it is better than nothing: Is it just the nostalgic mama in me or does she still look a bit like the newborn she once was? There's a new Tigger in town: The kids are doubtful that mama is actually going to be able to do this "30 day shred" business. I can't stop taking pictures of this sleeping beauty ... Meanwhile, the blessing of the 18 month old is that they can actually play on their own (if there aren't any sisters around to steal toys from). Especially if you give them a fire truck ...
