15 Ways You Know You're On Mat Leave

1. You actually go grocery shopping often. You have things like capers and sun-dried tomato pesto on hand. You've made leek and potato soup more than once in the past month. You buy a freezer. You cook dinner on a semi-regular basis (although you still hate it).

2. Jogging pants are standard apparel. You lose your hairbrush for 3 days and don't really miss it.

3. You know all the words to songs you haven't thought of in decades, like "On Top of Spaghetti" and "Robin in the Rain." You sing more in a day than you have in the past 5 years.

4. You get excited by things like footless baby tights, differently-shaped baby spoons and innovations in snowsuits. You own more than one diaper bag (okay, that might just be me).

5. You can identify the brand of a baby stroller a block away. You have the Craiglist Baby section bookmarked.

6. You feel no awkwardness talking to friends at length about your baby's poo. At any point in time, you might actually have some on you.

7. You make your own Christmas cards. You make your own gift tags. You make boxes of cookies for your midwives, your coworkers (who you never see) and your trainer (who won't eat them). You think really hard about recovering your dining room chairs (but aren't quite ready yet).

8. Your house is both cleaner and messier than it's ever been before.

9. Your laundry basket is often empty. Sometimes your husband's is, too. You draw the line at ironing, though.

10. You buy albums for all your photos. You buy artwork. You have yet to put photos in the albums or hang the artwork but you've taken the important first step.

11. You sometimes change your Facebook status more than once a week. You login at least once a day.

12. You use the Library. It's for baby development books, post-natal yoga videos and baby food recipes but after years of meaning to, you actually start going.

13. You've seen more breasts in the last year than in your entire life.

14. You call your husband "Daddy" and he calls you "Mommy." At some point, it's no longer a joke.

15. You post regularly on a blog like this!
