Victoria Who? Rainy days, dates, birthday parties and more
Pretty quiet long weekend here on Condor.
Chris and I took our friends Matt and Lisa up on their babysitting offer on Saturday and had an awesome date: we went to see Ironman (pretty good) and then managed to gobble a couple burritos before having to return home. It was great to reconnect, just the two of us, without talking about boring household business or baby stuff. I don't think Amelia even noticed we were gone - she played with Nuala like it was an ordinary week day.
Sunday was supposed to be family day, in which I would get to do all the fun stuff with Mela that I miss so dearly during the week (go to the park, dig in the sand, swing on the swings, play in the yard, etc) but it was rainy and kind of cold, and Mela was cranky so my little fantasy didn't come true.
We did however manage to get out to our local Value Village (used clothing store), and had a grand time stocking up on "new" baby (boy!) clothes, a couple toys for Mela (we spare no expense) and even some decent maternity clothes for me (who knew VV had such great mat clothes?!). It was awesome and we got some great deals (e.g. brand new Old Navy snowsuit for new baby Sutton). It's funny, I was thinking how early we're getting this stuff together but then realized that I'm due in 12 weeks!! Funny how that keeps creeping up on us!
Today (Monday), we went to Caren & Marc's to celebrate Cayla's first birthday. She's the youngest of the baby bunch so this was the last first birthday party. Mela had a good time playing with someone else's toys, although she took a nasty spill out of the high chair at one point that shook us all up a bit. She's fine, although she's got a small bruise on her forehead and a bit of redness around one eye (almost a shiner!). She bounced back pretty quickly though and was chattering away like nothing happened. Cayla seemed to enjoy the cupcakes (I did!) and it was great to see all the babies and pregnant ladies in our group now.
Speaking of babies, our friends Mike and Jill stopped by near the end, which was awesome that everyone got to see the little Glendon guy. So tiny! Amelia and Cayla showed passing interest but then went back to the toys.
Tonight I went to the neighborhood fireworks but Chris stayed home with Mela since we decided that they were 1) too late (9 pm start), and 2) too loud (she's terrified of the dustbuster!). It was great seeing everyone from the community get together; the fireworks display really is amazing too. Made me realize how much I love my neighborhood and will miss it when we eventually leave.
Anyway, happy Victoria Day (why are we celebrating this queen's birthday?)! It looks like my older sister Cathi is going to have her baby sometime tomorrow or the day after, so keep your fingers crossed for a safe and healthy journey into this world for my little niece!
Posting more photos on afryn but here are the highlights:
The little boy is really starting to pop (and kick)!
This may not look like much but was the first time Mela tried to feed herself and was pretty successful. The only problem now is that she wants to feed herself every time!
