Babies Update

The exciting times continue here (although without any pictures)! This weekend we had several car trips (some with baby, some without, some good, some not so good), visited with family (both young and not-as-young), had a relaxing night away (which is pretty much the most you can hope for entering your 9th month of your pregnancy) and introduced Mela to Balsam Lake.

Oh, and didn't have a new baby!

Friday night we drove to the grandparent's house and stayed over, along with cousins from New York and their adorable 18 month old (pictures to come). The two little ones together were fascinating and very cute although somewhat oblivious to each other (still very much in the "parallel play" stage of child development).

On Saturday, we left Mela with her back-up Mom (Grand-nanny) and G-Pop, and drove to a lovely, quiet resort near Algonquin Park for a little anniversary get-away (three years married!!!). We'd been there before but this time had our own little cabin which was awesome (right near the water), although a bit of a waste for only one night. The weather wasn't great (rainy on Saturday) but we got in the water for bit and to just relax and read for long stretches of time, which was wonderful. Except I kept wishing there was some way I could bottle that relaxed feeling and take sips of it when necessary over the next few months.

I found myself thinking of the little monkey a lot too, and missing her, which adds a new dimension to the whole "weekend away." I woke up Sunday morning fantasizing about our reunion, which was a little pathetic.

Sunday afternoon we met up with the grandparents, Uncle J and Mela at the trailer, which was great. None of us had a camera unfortunately, so we couldn't document Mela's reaction to the lake but it wasn't quite as positive as I'd expected (turns out big bodies of cold water aren't nearly as much fun as the local splash pad).

We left the drive back to the city a bit late, which resulted in 1) a cranky baby and 2) a cranky Mom, so that was probably the low part of the weekend but nothing a whole bunch of sleep won't solve.

In Baby2 news, I started feeling Braxton-Hicks contractions for the first time this weekend and had them pretty frequently on both car rides (something related to the motion or sitting in a confined space??), which was pretty scary. I really didn't want to meet our little boy this soon, not only because we were away from home but 36 weeks seems just a bit too little early for the little lungs. It's strange because I didn't really feel them with Mela until the week before labour and now today still, I've been feeling them throughout the day. I guess that's not uncommon for second / subsequent children, though, so I'm telling myself that this is not a sign that labour is going to come soon.

At least I hope not ... we still don't have a room for the little guy!!!
