Happy "scrunchy nose" new year!
Well, we're back. We hit some travel complications (extra long flight to NS and then our flight was delayed 3 days coming back) but overall, we had a wonderful Christmas holiday. We got to see all kinds of family and friends and Chris had a good amount of time off from work.
And Mela had a great time! All kinds of love and attention and new toys (like ribbon!). I don't think she got that much out of Christmas morning but she's loving her toys now. We took her to the mall Santa (who was very realistic!) but she screamed, as expected.
Not much to report on the development front ... she's not crawling yet (which we kind of like - can't imagine what that's going to be like) but rocks back and forth on her hands and knees and can manage to drag herself most places (just not forward). She is still the sleeping champion of the world (13 hrs each night, with about 3 hrs of naps during the day), for which we are eternally grateful.
At this age, I've found that that she's changing more slowly now but things are still fun for us on a daily basis. For example, she just started breathing in and out through her nose and scrunching it up when she laughs. It's like she's just discovered she can breathe through her nose. And she's just learned that if you can't see someone, you can lean over and get a better view sometimes. Now she'll lean around a doorway to look for someone, which she never used to do.
It's amazing, because you think it's just a stage all babies go through, but then you see another baby around the same age and they don't do that but they do some other thing she's never done. And she's really developing some personality, too - we have little jokes now, where she does something and then I imitate her and she does it again and laughs. She seems much more her own little person now.
Anyway, all is good and we're glad to be home. We're taking two classes now - a baby music class and an early literacy class through the local library. I think they're basically the same thing - you sit with your baby and sing songs and do actions and clap and stuff. I signed up for them worried that we would be shut-in from the cold this winter but today we didn't wear coats, so maybe it's not going to be that bad!
Happy New Year, everyone!
