Talking, singing, cackling ... and ticky moops
Mela's talking is crazy here these days! For example, last night at dinner, after not eating her food, she decided she wanted some of mine.
"Mama, Mela eating Mama's food?"
"No sweetie, you already had (ignored) your food. This food is Mama's."
"Mama! Mela eat Mama's food!"
"No, sweetie."
(silence)
"Mama, Mela hold Mama's bowl?"
"Nice try, kiddo."

I went into her room the other day after her nap and she was standing there, with her finger stuck in a little hole in a a train.
She was panicked for a minute, then popped it out.
"Mama! Mela pop finger out little circle!"
Wow. That was a six word sentence. Which is amazing for a little girl who could barely say her own name a couple months ago.
But why did you stick your finger in there in the first place??

Speaking of talking, sometimes Mela's words aren't totally clear, although we always know what she means.
Like "ticky" ... it means ticklish. If I touch her sides while changing her clothes, she giggles and proclaims it "ticky!"
The other night, I was putting her to bed and gave her an extra long, wet kiss (which she calls a "moop").
"Mama!" she said. "Ticky moop!"
Chris says it would be a great name for a band.

Tried to catch Mela on video doing some counting and alphabet (perform monkey!) but not so much in the mood to sit still. Did say Grammie quite clearly, though, which is a first!

At a yard sale recently, I picked up a copy of Raffi's "Baby Beluga" CD. Lovely song and I thought I'd add it to the rotation.
Well.
Any time I go to put on music now, it's "Mama! Baby Luga?!" Any time the song ends, it's "Mama! Baby Luga 'gain?!" Over and over and over some more.
In the backyard, at the park, even in the car. "Mama! Sing Baby Luga!"
This may have been a mistake.
She is pretty cute when she sings, though:

Mela has gotten really wacky lately. She has this maniacal laugh she does (while proclaiming, "Mela FUNNY!") that makes her seem like a crazed mastermind.
Which sometimes she is, really, so maybe it's just fitting.
Mela losing it:

If you ever need your toddler to eat veggies, just put them on their younger sibling's tray. Works every time.

My weekly Mommy Drop-In is going great - this week we got out the kiddie pool and let everyone splash away.
Nate charmed the ladies (Baby Bella) in his cool swim gear!

Worked all day yesterday and then still managed to drop by our midwife group annual picnic. Lovely evening for it, though not exactly relaxing, with a toddler and a very active (and hungry!) baby.
The boy loves to stand:
Crowd shot:
In keeping with the hippie vibe, Mela hugged all the trees (and a lamp post):
Time to go home ... Mela gives Nate a push:
And finally ...
While I've been typing this, Nathan's been playing on the floor and listening to the Black Eyed Peas. Right now, he's watching "My Humps" and is totally enthralled.
Is that wrong??
